Story of the day
Born in Buduburam. Captain in Houston.
Alphonso Davies was born in a refugee camp in Ghana, to parents who fled Liberia's civil war. Canada took the family in when he was five. At 16 he became its youngest men's international; at 22 he scored its first-ever World Cup goal. A torn ACL sixteen months ago nearly took this summer away. Today in Houston, the captain walks Canada into the first round of 16 in its history — against Africa, the continent where his story began.
